Rally House Music and Spikes in Creativity

Captain's Log, stardate -297937.5703640285.

Class has started up again at Sac State, but I don't have any classes, as the university I will be attending in Incheon doesn't start their Spring semester until March. Thankfully, I have many tasks to keep me busy in the meantime.

The first task is that of packing up. Not only am I packing up to travel to South Korea next month, I am also packing up to move house. Awesooooooooooooooooome.

The second task is helping out with the club I'm in at Sac State. Hornet Racing is a club where-in a bunch of nerds hopped up on Redbull goof off and an open-wheel, Formula One-type car magically appears by the end of the semester. Then we race that car against other colleges' cars. It's actually pretty rad. I'm a part of their business/media team because I have some skill in Adobe programs and I was a theater kid so I'm one of the nerds that actually feels comfortable talking to people. That's where the second task comes in.

I was put in charge of making both a graphic to be displayed on the TVs in one of the common areas at my university as well as invites that would be emailed to people inviting them to come to our annual unveiling of the new car.

Normally I would jump right into these tasks. I love creating stuff and that's why I initially wanted to go to school as a graphic design major. I'm doing design studies now, though, and that is a whole other aggravating story. Anyway...

I have been feeling very stressed lately. If that's the right word. Overwhelmed. Down in the dumps. I was not up to doing anything creative for a while. But this week I kinda snapped.

I met up with my friends again, which helped more than I thought it would. Then I stayed up late, which I almost never do, and watched a show I had never seen before, which I also almost never do. I literally sat on the couch and thought, "I want to watch an anime from the '90s or 2000s that's kinda shitty but also kinda artsy." I almost watched Ouran High School Host Club. Then I started watching Mononoke from 2007. Holy hell that thing is gorgeous. Kinda reset my brain a bit. That in combination with going outside and eating well again made me want to actually get into my design projects again, which is nice.

I also found this channel on YouTube, Denz1000. He mixes his music himself and edits all the graphics on his videos, which in this new age of AI being used for everything, even for stupid things like music mixing, is awesome. I listened to his rally house mixes while designing the invites for the club and it really helped me stay upbeat while I did it.

In conclusion, I surrounded myself with inspiration and friends and I felt alright again, which like, duh. 2025 Car Unveiling Invite.jpg Searching for my marbles, Zurgy
